The miscreants barged into the ground floor of the house (Plot No 11) in Nandan Vihar under Infocity police limits late in the night after breaking open the window grill while family members were sleeping upastairs.

Among the goods looted were about 100 grams of gold ornaments, some silver jewellery and about Rs 20,000 in cash, Mohanty said. “I went to bed at about 1 am. Obviously, the burgalrs have come after that,” he said.

After getting information about the burglary, Infocity police arrived at the spot this morning with a sniffer dog, which led the police team to a nearby hotel by the side of the main road, but lost its way thereafter. The burglars may have gone towards Nandankanan, the police team suspects. They also suspect that it was the handiwork of a gang of four to five.

“The burglars might have scaled the gate of the adjacent building to enter the room before looting the belongings and cash by opening the almirah with the help of a key after breaking the window grill,’ a member of the inestigating team said.

Police have also got the finger print of one of the burglars from the almirah which they broke open to loot the goods, he said.
