Malkangiri, Nov 19:
BSF personnel averted a major blast in the Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, a bomb detection team of 143 BSF Battalion from the Amba camp was on a routine check along the Boipariguda-Malkangiri road in the afternoon when it spotted two landmines planted on the road side at a distance of 5 km from Boiparigudo.
Following information, the local police and a bomb disposal squad of the BSF rushed to the spot and defused the two landmines.
“The Maoists had planted the two powerful landmines, weighing around 10 kg each to target the BSF personnel,” said Boipariguda IIC Ashok Mohapatra.
The IIC also said that the BSF had recently searched this place following information that the left wing ultras had planted landmines. But they failed to recover any landmines after digging up the area and latter filled it up.
Taking this opportunity, the Maoists had planted the landmines in the same place, Mohapatra added.
