Officials of the Odisha government’s Excise department today caught a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, two imposters in police uniform and a mini truck driver from near the railway station here on charges of smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and seized several bottles of IMFL concealed in bags from them.
A mini truck hired by the jawan and his accomplices to carry the contraband to Jagannathprasad in Ganjam district has been also seized by the Excise department officials.
The BSF jawan has been identified as Susanta Behera posted at Khurda. A total of four persons the jawan, his two accomplices in police uniform and the driver of the mini truck have been arrested.
“We have arrested four persons. The IMFL was smuggled from Meghalaya and was on its way to Jagannathprasad in Ganjam. We caught them when they were about to move to their destination after alighting from the train. Apart from the BSF jawan, two persons in camouflaged uniform and driver of the vehicle they had hired to carry the stuff have been caught,” said Debi Prasad Das, inspector Excise, Bhubaneswar.
“I am a constable with the BSF posted at Khurda but deployed in Malkangiri. We were carrying liquor and have been caught,” said Susant Behera BSF constable.
