Pattamundai, Dec 28 :
In a daring broad daylight robbery, two bike-borne criminals snatched away Rs 1 lakh in cash from a person right in front of the lcoal police station on Friday.
The snatching incident took place around 11 am when Banamali Das (48) of Angarkhia village in Auli was buying vegetables from a shop in front of the police station here after withdrawing Rs 1 lakh from the local State Bank branch on Friday.
Das said two bike-borne young people stopped by while he was buying vegetables and snatched a bag containing the cash from his hands in a flash.
” I shouted on the top of my voice for help but the criminals fled the spot on their bike and no one stopped them,” Das said.
According to eye-witness accounts, some local people and policemen had come running when they heard Das’ cry for help but no one could nab the looters who sped away on their bike.
Following information of the loot, Kendrapara SP Rabinarayan Behera ordered police checks on all roads connecting Pattamundai but that has not yielded any results so far.
While Das is crestfallen, the people here are worried about the deteriorating law and order situation in the town where people are not safe anywhere, including the market located next to the police station.
