In a bid to provide quality English education to students in Odisha capital, British Council has decided to cooperate the state government in imparting world class education.

“The discussion is on with Odisha government in this connection. A blue print is being prepared for execution of the plan at the earliest”, said Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director (East India), British Council.

A round table meeting was held here yesterday between the British Council and IIT Bhubaneswar to create a platform for providing quality education to students and facilitating more number of students from the capital city to pursue education in the United Kingdom (UK).

Around 30 students from Odisha are going to the UK every year for higher study, which is comparatively less than other states and countries. We will launch great scholarship programme under which more number of students from the state can go to the UK for higher education. Total 198 students will be provided the scholarship along with financial assistance for the study in Britain, Chakrabarti said.

Similarly, a lecturer interactive programme will be launched under Newton Bhabha programme through which teachers of any schools and universities can be entitled to go to the UK. The teachers will be provided training on English language, he said.

According to reports, City insight survey was conducted for exploring the way to provide quality education in smart cities n collaboration with British Council. Six smart cities — Bhubaneswar, Ahmadabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chandigarh — had participated in the survey.
