Bhubaneswar, Sep 5:
Showing exemplary courage, a 35-year-old woman in Odisha capital today fought off and caught hold of two miscreants, who were trying to snatch the gold chain on her neck.
The miscreants, identified as Bijay Kumar Sahu and Harihar Das, both hailing from Haladipadia under Laxmisagar police limits, were later handed over to the Mancheswar police staff by the locals.
Deepti Rekha Rout of Rasulgarh area was returning with her child on her Scooty this afternoon, when two miscreants followed her vehicle. The accused persons attacked the lady when she was about to enter her residence, police sources said.
“The accused persons tried to snatch the gold chain of the lady. When she resisted, they took hold of her child and tried to harm her. The lady, however, did not lose her nerve and fought bravely and caught hold of the looteras. Alerted by her screams, local people reached the spot and thrashed the duo before handing them over to our staff,” said a senior police officer of the Mancheswar police station.
“We have collected and are examining footage from the CCTV cameras installed in front of Ms Rout’s residence. We have come to know that the accused persons had come out of Jharpada jail earlier this month in a similar type of case after a local court granted bail to them. Both will be forwarded to the court here tomorrow,” the police officer added.
