The Odisha unit of the BJP today kicked off its week-long ‘Jagannath Sanskruti Suraksha Yatra’ from the Bada Danda (Grand Road) here to protest the gross violation of centuries-old tradition during the Brahma Parivartan of the deities in the Shri Jagannath Temple and to make the people of Odisha aware of the lapses during the sacred rituals and the role of State government in it.
The Yatra was flagged off in the presence of party’s senior leaders including state unit president KV Singhdeo, Bijay Mohapatra, Jual Oram, Giridhar Gamang, Manmohan Samal, Pratap Sarangi and Rudra Narayan Pani.
As per the schedule, the Yatra, on the first day will reach Chandikhol via Chandanpur, Satyabadi, Pipili, Uttara Chhak, Samantarapur, Kalpana Square, Laxmi Sagar, Rasulgarh, Link Road (Cuttack), Sikharpur, Manguli Chhak, Tangi and Chhatia.
The party will have public meetings at Sakhigopal, Pipili, Samanatarapur and Chandikhol.
On the second day, the Yatra will reach Jamunda via Markona, Jamujhari, Soro, Khantapada, Nilagiri, Sajanagarh and Berampur.
On the third day, the Yatra will reach Baripada via Baisinga and Betnati while on the fourth day, it will reach Baleswar via Remuna, Hatigarh Chhak, Fuladi Chhak, Rupsa Matani Chhak, Gandhi Chhak at Basta, Baliapal, Kamarda and Jaleswar.
On the fifth day, the Yatra, after a public meeting at Rathakhala near Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, will move to Khordha via Mausi Maa Chhak, Raj Mahal, Ram Mandir, Kalinga Stadium, Salia Sahi, Rental Colony, Bharatpur, Andharrua, Chandaka, Kantabada, Kateni, Mendhasala, Chhatabara, Paniora, Pitapalli and Mukund Prasad. Later, it would move to Nayagarh via Khordha Town Hall Square, Tapang, Rameswar Chhak, Kandha, Chandpur and Sunakhala.
“We will make people aware of the gross apathy of the state government, which led to the inordinate delay and gross irregularities in the Brahma Parivartan of the deities. We will also apprise the people of the interference of the state government in the selection of daru and the involvement of ruling party ministers in the Banajaga Yatra,” said BJP leader Pratap Sarangi.
