Malkangiri, Mar 31:
A four-year-old boy of Sukuraguda village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, who was branded with a hot iron by his maternal grandfather for curing him of some ailment today, succumbed to his injuries at the district headquarters hospital here.
“Four-year-old Santosh Madhi, son of Gangaram Madhi of Sukuraguda was admitted to the hospital at 4PM yesterday. At the time of admission, his condition was low and he was suffering from septicemia. We had given him symptomatic treatment, he was also given blood transfusion but, unfortunately, he expired today at 9.45 AM. Had he come at an early stage it would have been good. They first treat such cases through disaris (traditional healers) and when the case gets complicated they come to the hospital which is often late. Had this child come a little early he could have been saved,” said Dr. Sashi Bhushan Mohapatra, ADMO Malkangiri district headquarters hospital.
