Acting on a tip off, police had located both the landmines yesterday evening and sealed off the area.

On Wednesday, in a joint operation of police and CRPF led by Rayagada SP, a CRPF bomb squad detonated the bombs, weighing around 10-12 kgs.

The police and security forces were on the target by the Maoists with the landmines, according to police sources.

“Naxalites to create causality in police and security forces had planted 10-12 kgs landmines, near Hatamuniguda chowk. After we got the information we had cordoned off the region and today the CRPF team defused the landmines on the spot. There was a tiffin bomb and gelatin sticks which is a high grade explosive,” said a senior police officer.

Police and CRPF are further investigating the case.
