Sambalpur, Feb 11:
With the recovery of three more bodies today, the total number of bodies recovered from the Hirakud reservoir has gone up to 31.
All 31 of them had drowned in the reservoir when the boat in which they were returning from a picnic overturned and capsized, presumably because of overcrowding.
Rescue operations in the Hirakud reservoir have now come to an end, official sources said.
The rescue team, comprising the fire brigade, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and the SCUBA divers, resumed operations this morning in the presence of district collector, SP and RDC.
By afternoon, the team recovered three bodies that were later sent to VSS Medical College and Hospital in Burla for post mortem.
The three bodies have been identified as those of Sampad Saraf (44-Male), Ishan Neotia- (3-Male) and Shruti Agrawal (13-Female).
