Boat mishap : Two picnickers go missing in Cuttack

Two persons have gone missing after a boat mishap in river Mahanadi  near Kaliaboda here on Sunday evening, reports said.

Both missing persons who were swept away by the river current, work as oil tanker drivers. They have been identified as Sukuta Swain (21) of Nayagarh and Kartik Swain (46) of Polsara in Ganjam district.

Reports said, a group of 8 people from the Sikhar Chandi area here had gone for a picnic at the Mahanadi ‘patha’ around noon.

The accident occurred when they were returning by boat to Kaliaboda at 5 pm in the evening.

Sources said, the picnickers got panicky when the boat the had boarded got filled with water due to a leakage and jumped into the river. While six of them managed to swim to the river bank, two were swept away.

While a rescue operation is on, they have not been traced till last reports came in.
