Kendrapara: In a bid to ensure healthcare accessibility to people residing in areas surrounded by rivers, Odisha government launched the first ever boat ambulance service in Kendrapara district.
The service was flagged off by Mahakalapada MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak at Batighar, a heritage tourist spot in the district, on Tuesday.
With the launching of the boat ambulance service, over 25,000 people residing in riverside villages of Mahakalpada, Rajnagar and other blocks will be benefited in the district.
The service will help the patients and pregnant women to bring them to the hospitals during emergencies.
An official source said that the government has planned to introduce six boat ambulances across the State this year. The boats equipped with necessary medical equipment will be available 24X7.
The Mumbai-based Mahindra Dockyard has been assigned to build the specially designed boat ambulances.
