Bhubaneswar, Dec 1:
In an effort to dispose of garbage in the state capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to introduce a round-the-clock Express Cleaning Service (ECS) from January next year.
Under the new scheme, BMC will engage private agencies to collect wastes from private houses, educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, apartments, commercial units, auditoriums and markets and dump it near the Sainik School.
Three private agencies have been assigned to carry out the cleaning task across 52 wards of the BMC that are divided into four units.
The agencies have signed an agreement with the civic body for seven years.
A container having 1,100-litre capacity will be installed in every ward.
Talking to OST, BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena said the waste will be collected in morning. The exact timings for collection of garbage will be notified so that the people will be ready to hand over their garbage to the agencies at their door steps.
The wastes, before being taken to the dump yard would be weighed and payment would be made to the agencies accordingly, he added.
