Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today discussed some major concerns of the capital city in its council meeting.


The BMC discussed its plan to take authority over some leading markets of the city which presently come under the GA Department with an aim to earn around Rs 1.5 crore per annum, informed an official press release.

The markets included Unit II, Unit II shopping centre, Unit IV shopping center, sub-way market, Alaka market at unit IV and KIOSK at AG Square.

Focusing on the drainage and sewerage menace of the capital city, the corporation announced to desilt and clean the drainage channels by July 10 and the sewerage waste would be lifted as soon as possible in its release.

The progress card of the Smart City Project was also presented by the CEO of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited.

The CEO informed that four sectors of the Smart City tender process is nearing completion i.e. IT solutions for the ICOMC (intelligent city operations and management centre), infrastructure development, Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre and Traffic signalization tender.

The traffic signalisation work, for which the tender process would be over by July 20, might be over within nine months after the finalisation of the tender process, it added.

The release also hinted that process of land transfer from the GA Department is on for the projects like Satyanagar Institutional Core and slum redevelopment projects under the Bhubaneswar Town Centre District.
