The BJP has found a new tool to attract the youth to it ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections: cricket, the most popular game in the country. .
As part of the national agenda of the party, the state youth wing of BJP has decided to organise cricket tournaments in every district and state before concluding it with inter-state contests at the national level. The tournament will begin from January 11, a day before Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary on January 12.
“About 18 teams from each district will participate in the tournament. The district level tournaments will end on January 18. Every citizen of India starting the age from 18 years to 35 years can participate in the cricket tournament,” said state BJYM general secretary Thakur Ranjit Dash at a press conference here.
There is a catch though; the party has fixed an entry fee of Rs 500 for each team.
Ccricket teams interested to participate in the tournaments can get forms from the state office headquarters and district presidents of the youth wing across the state.
Thakur said he had chosen cricket because it is the most popular game in the country and it can connect the youth with the party.
