Bhubaneswar, Mar 25:
The state BJP today moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the BJD-led Odishs government for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by recommending prospecting license for Posco for the Khandadhar iron ore mines.
“The Steel & Mines department has sent its recommendation to the Central government for grant of prospecting license for iron ore over an area of 2500 hectares in village Kensara, Butuda, Rantha, Batagaon, Lusi, Raisuan in the district of Sundargarh, in favour of Posco India Pvt. Ltd. for a period of 3 years, by violating the election code of conduct. The department has recommended on March 6, while the notification for poll code was issued just a day before,” alleged Surendra Lath, election officer, BJP state in-charge in a letter.
He also alleged that the recommendation has been sent to the Centre in connivance with the ruling Congress party at the Centre.
“While the recommendation was rejected by the Central government on January 30, it astonishes us that within two months the ruling BJD has complied with all suggestions made by the Centre and recommended it once again. The BJD has indulged in malafide activities of stealing iron ores by exploring minerals illegally,” said the letter.
