Bhubaneswar, Sep 15:

Protesting the fresh petrol price hike, the BJP on Saturday took out a rally near the Ram Mandir Square in the city demanding an immediate rollback.

Decrying the decision of the Centre, the party activists said the recent hike of Rs 1.63 (excluding VAT) was unwarranted after it had hiked the price by Rs 2.35 per litre on September 1,

“The faulty economic policy and lack of foresight of the Centre is responsible for the frequent petrol price hike, said Bhubaneswar district youth wing president Biswaranjan Badajena.

CPM activists, led by Bhubaneswar district unit secretary Suresh Panigrahi came down heavily on the Centre for its anti-people policies in a separate demonstration at the Jayadev Vihar Square. The CPI too held similar protests at the Raj Mahal Square area.

The ruling Biju Janata Dal, eager to pounce upon any opportunity for Centre-bashing too staged protest demonstrations across the city against the hike in petrol prices.
