Nuapada, Nov 19:
BJP workers today gheraoed the collector’s office in Odisha’s Nuapada alleging irregularities in NFSA (National Food Security Act) beneficiary list and demanding distribution of ration as per old cards until the necessary corrections are made to NFSA rolls.
Hundreds of men and women led by Nuapada MLA and leader of BJP Legislature Party in Odisha Assembly Basant Panda took out a rally in the town and submitted a memorandum to the collector.
“Today we met the collector and asked him to do an enquiry into the irregularities in NFSA enrolment and take necessary steps to enrol the deserving beneficiaries. Besides, we also demanded that the State Government should take necessary steps to distribute ration to the deserving beneficiaries as per old arrangements,” said Panda.
“I had been getting 25 kilos of rice every month, but the officials made some changes to the list and I don’t get anything anymore. That rice was a big help for me as I can’t afford to buy my entire ration from the shop. I am here to demand that my name is included in the list again,” said a tribal woman whose name is missing in NFSA rolls.
Nuapada collector assured the protestors to do the necessary and promised action against the violators.
“We are going to take stringent action against the people who have enrolled themselves illegally under NFSA. We would confiscate their cards, cancel them and lodge cases against them. We would also certainly try to include the missing beneficiaries back in the list,” said Nuapada Collector Mohammed Sadique Alam.
It may be noted that enrolment of illegitimate beneficiaries under NFSA rolls has so far been a major concern for the State Government and have led to violence at many places in the 14 districts where the NFSA has already been rolled out.
In a review meeting yesterday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered district collectors to initiate both departmental and legal proceedings against the government officials and Panchayati Raj members involved in getting illegitimate beneficiaries enlisted in NFSA rolls.
