BJD’s month-long signature campaign against Centre’s negligence begins

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), two wings of the BJD, today launched a month-long signature campaign to protest the alleged anti-Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe policies of the Centre.

The campaign will continue for a month during which 10 lakh signatures will be collected and sent to President Ram Nath Kovind, party sources said.

BJD leaders alleged that the Centre’s contribution for scholarships given to SC and ST students in the state has reduced from 90 per cent to less than 20 per cent, which burderned the state exchequer.

While Centre’s contribution was Rs 215.8 crore in 2016-17, it got reduced to Rs 35.12 crore in 2017-18. On the other hand, Odisha Government’s contribution which was Rs 22.48 crore in 2016-17, increased to Rs 232.28 crore in 2017-18, they said.
