Bhubaneswar, Feb 14:
After over four months of its inception, the legal front of Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will organise its first-ever state-level convention on February 28.
According to party sources, BJD Legal Front will organise its maiden state-level convention on Feb 28 at Bali Yatra ground on the banks of river Mahanadi near Barabati Fort in Cuttack.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to participate in the convention.
Besides, around 10, 000 lawyers affiliated to nearly 160 associations are expected to participate in the conference.
“This legal front was conceptualised by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in order to forge the unity of the lawyers for the betterment of the society. This is the first time such an attempt has been made by any leader in India,”state convener of the party’s legal front, Milan Kanungo said.
The modalities for formation of the Law Commission are likely to taken up at the meeting, sources added.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced to set up a Law Commission while addressing the 44th annual conference of All Odisha Lawyers’ Association in Cuttack last December.
With the constitution of the Commission, it will examine all the existing laws and suggest modifications on their texts.
