Bhubaneswar, Oct 20:
The Odisha BJP today alleged that the ruling BJD had used the administrative machinery to influence self help groups (SHGs) who in turn influenced the voters to vote for its candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh in the by-polls for the Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency.
“The child development project officers (CDPOs) were influencing the SHGs to cast their votes in favour of BJD. They were threatening to block their grant, if votes were not cast for the BJD,” said Odisha BJP Pravari Arun Singh.
He also said that the ruling party had violated all provisions of the model poll code during the campaign in Kandhamal. “We will file a complaint with the Election Commission to look into the matter and take necessary action,” said Singh.
However, the allegations of BJP were rubbished by the ruling party leaders, who termed that there is nothing new to it. “The opposition parties, including BJP, have been accusing us of using muscle power, money power and administrative machinery during elections. There is nothing new in it. All the allegations are baseless,” said BJD spokesperson Pratap Kehari Deb.
