Bhubaneswar, Nov 6:
Back to its usual politics of Centre bashing, a delegation of the ruling BJD today submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee through Governor SC Jamir alleging Central neglect in providing assistance to Odisha even though it has been ravaged by the twin disasters – cyclone Phailin and subsequent floods.
Accusing the Centre of neglecting the state even during the natural calamities, the BJD urged the President to direct the Union government to release the demanded fund for the restoration and renovation of infrastructure and benefit of people affected in cyclone and subsequent floods.
“18 districts have been affected following the twin calamities. The state government has submitted a demand of more than Rs 5,800cr. However, the centre is yet to grant funds to the state discriminating against the state. Besides, no ministers including prime minister visited the calamity hit state,” said the memo.
