BJD names candidates for 5 LS, 30 Assembly seats

Bhubaneswar, Mar 12:
The BJD today announced the names of candidates for five out of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies and 30 out of 147 Assembly constituencies in the state. Elections for all these seats will be held in the first round of polling on April 10.
Three of the five Lok Sabha candidates named today – Dillip Tirkey, Arkakeshari Deo and Ladukishore Swain – are new faces while there are nine among the 30 Assembly candidates who will be fighting the elections for the first time.
announcement of candidate listThe five Lok Sabha candidates named by BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Nivas this evening are Dr. Dillip Tirkey (Sundargarh), Ladukishore Swain (Aska), Sidhanta Mohapatra (Berhampur), Arkakeshari Deo (Kalahandi) and Kalikesh Singhdeo (Balangir).
The names of the 30 Assembly candidates are: Jagannath Sarka-Bissam Cuttack, Balabhadra Majhi-Lanjigarh, Rajendra Dholkia-Nuapada, Lambodar Nial-Khariar, Divyasingh Mishra- Junagarh, Pushpendra Singhdeo-Dharamgarh, Anam Naik-Bhawanipatna, Dhaneswar Majhi-Narla, Lal Bihari Himirika-Rayagada, Binay Toppo-Talasara, Kusum Tete-Sundargarh, Subrat Tarai-Raghunathpalli, Sarada Nayak-Rourkela, Mangala Kissan-Rajganapur, Dayanidhi Kissan-Bonai, Padmanav Behera-Birmaharajpur, Niranjan Pujari-Sonepur, Jogendra Behera-Loisingha, Gita Sahu-Titlagarh, Hajji Mohd Ayub Khan-Kantabanji, Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik-Brahampur, Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi-Gopalpur, Surya Naranan Patro-Digapahandi, Usha Devi-Chikiti, Latika Pradhan-Kabisuryanagar, Purna Chandra Sethi-Khallikote, Debaraj Mohanty-Aska, Purna Chandra Swain-Soroda, Nalini Devi-Sanakhemundi, Naveen Patnaik- Hinjilicut.
Interestingly, the first name that the Chief Minister read out was that of Jagannath (Sarka), the second Balabhdra (Majhi) and the third himself, leading observers to opine that it was more than a coincidence.
The BJD president said the rest of the candidates for the first phase of elections will be announced ‘very soon’.
“In the last few days, we have received more than 5, 000 applications seeking candidature of the Biju Janata Dal from every nook and corner of the state. I am humbled by the confidence they have reposed in the Biju Janata Dal and Biju ideology. I personally thank each one of them. I am confident they will continue to support the party and work for a self reliant and prosperous state,” Patnaik said.
