Chhatrapur: BJP Odisha unit spokesperson and the party’s in-charge for Ganjam district Golak Mohapatra was interrogated for over three hours in connection with the sensational brutal murder of BJD Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan.
Mohapatra was subjected to a total of three hours and 13 minutes of grilling in two phases by the police at the Chhatrapur police station here.
While second phase interrogation of Mohapatra lasted for two hours and 13 minutes, the first phase had lasted for one hour.
Police recorded his statement under section 162 of the CrPC.
While expressing satisfaction over his interrogation by the police, the senior BJP leader announced that he would extend full cooperation to the police in its investigation of the murder.
“I am satisfied with the interrogation. I will fully cooperate with the police,” stated Mohapatra to reporters after completion of his interrogation by the police.
Mohapatra who was served summons by the Chhatrapur police yesterday to appear before it arrived at the police station flanked by former ministers and supporters in a rally.
Additional SP Pradip Kumar Mohapatra, Additional SP Ajay Pratap Swain, SDPO Ramesh Chandra Sethi, Chhatrapur IIC Bishnu Prasad and Orissa High Court lawyer Parthasarathi Nayak were present during Mohapatra’s questioning.
Police sources said Mohapatra was quizzed in connection with his alleged links with arrested Krushna Chandra Nayak-a key conspirator in Laxmidutta Pradhan murder case.
It is worth mentioning here that Nayak and another key conspirator in the murder Duryodhan Reddy were taken on a seven-day remand by the Chhatrapur police on Tuesday for further interrogation.
Nayak had claimed in a video that Mohapatra had helped them in their escape after the murder.
According to Call Detail Record (CDR) of Nayak available from police sources, he was in constant touch with Mohapatra both before and after the murder till the night of October 22.
Nayak and Reddy were arrested by a special team of the police from a guest house at Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
