Bhubaneswar, April 16:
The Odisha BJP today levelled allegations against BJD vice-president Kalpataru Das and president of the women’s wing of the party Pramila Mallick for requisitioning presiding officers, who will favour BJD, in Jajpur district.
“The IAS officer-turned-chief advisor of Naveen Patnaik had asked the BJD leaders and Jajpur district Collector to give a list of presiding officers to be engaged in the constituencies of Jajpur, where BJD candidates are not in a good position. Since Mallick is contesting from Binjharpur and Kalpatrau’s son is contesting from Dharmasala, they have engaged some presiding officers who will support BJD during elections,” alleged BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma in a press release.
He also alleged that even though there are rules that the local government employees would not be engaged as presiding officers and polling officers in the district, the government has engaged local employees in these two constituencies violating the law.
Apprehending that the officials will work for the victory of the BJD candidates, Sharma demanded that such officials be identified and relieved immediately.
Apprehensions of booth capture by BJD
In a separate development, BJP candidate for the Jajpur Lok Sabha seat Amiya Mallick has written to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) demanding deployment of para military forces in certain booths in Dharmasala where he fears booth capture attempts by the ruling BJD.
In his letter, Mallick has accused the BJD of planning to capture some booths and has expressed his lack of confidence in the local police who would be guarding these booths.
