Dhenkanal, Nov 14:
Following the Wednesday’s fire at the Bhushan steel plant at Meramandali in Dhenkanal district in which a worker was killed and 15 others were injured, the district administration on Thursday began the process of enlisting the details of the workers engaged in the plant.
“The plant authorities had assured us to submit a detailed list of workers on Wednesday. The district labour officer (DLO) and the local tehsildar have been asked to submit a detailed report within two days after receiving the detailed data from the plant authorities”, district collector Rupa Roshan Sahu told reporters here.
Meanwhile, authorities of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers on Thursday met the two seriously injured workers at a private hospital at Cuttack and recorded their statements.
The two injured workers– Sarat Dehuri and Durga Charan Hansda– have sustained more than 60 percent burn injuries.
Briefing the media here, Dhenkanal SP Manoranjan Mohanty said following the reports of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers, police has seized the blast furnace-II.
“Since it is feared that more workers might have been killed, search operations inside the furnace would be taken up”, he added.
The SP also said the exact number of casualties is still not known.
Meanwhile, the local magistrate and the senior officials of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers are conducting an on-the-spot investigation inside the plant.
In view of the tension in and outside the plant due to labour unrest, armed police forces have been deployed to ward off any untoward incident, reports said.
