Bhubaneswar celebrates its 66th birthday

Bhubaneswar, Apr 13:

Governor Dr SC Jamir unfurled the Rajadhani Pratistha Divas Flag  and took the ceremonial salute from cadets, security personnel and troupes who took part in a marchpast along the Odisha Assembly road in Bhubaneswar as part of the celebrations to mark the 66th Foundation Day of the state’s capital city on Sunday.BBSR foundation day pic

This is the first time that the Governor attended the annual celebrations and garlanded the foundation stone of the city laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 April, 1948.

The Governor also felicitated twelve eminent citizens with the Rajadhani Gaurab Samman 2014 on this occasion.

Dr Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, director, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, senior lawyer Sidhartha Dash, activist Dr Badrinath Patnaik, actor Minaketan Das, actress Tandra Ray, administrator Rabinarayan Senapati, sportsperson Valina Valentina, businessman Bagataram Gupta, nurse Rojalin Seth, postman Atulya Kumar Panda, traffic constable Harekrushna Satpathy and sweeper Ganga Ghadei were the recipient of the Rajadhani Gaurab Samman this year.

The CRPF, OSAP , a band party from Sainik School as well as student-cadets from more than 70 government and private schools and colleges in the city participated in the marchpast.

A group of Maharshi College of Natural Law students presented a daredevil show with their motorcycles.

No speeches were delivered because of the model code of conduct imposed on account of the ongoing poll process.

The programme was organized by Rajadhani Pratistha Divas Committee.

The ADM Bhubaneswar Manoj Kumar Patnaik launched an online search portal KhojaKhoji.com for the capital city on the occasion.The Rajdhani Foundation Day celebrations will continue till  April 15, organisers said.
