The 20th edition of Bhubaneswar Book Fair-2014 kicked-off today at Exhibition Ground here. The fair will continue till February 9 this year.
Inaugurating the event on Wednesday evening, Assam Governor Janaki Ballabh Pattnaik urged people to buy at least one book from the fair which they find interesting. He thanked the organisers of the fair for taking the pain to bring a whole range of books that interest readers cutting across age-groups and taste.
“The book fair also offers an interactive platform for exchange of ideas between writers and readers,” he said.
“There are 350 stalls this time, much more than we had last year. Publishers from Odisha as well as outside have brought a huge variety of books and we are confident the book lovers will find it rewarding ,” said general secretary of Bhubaneswar Book Fair and eminent journalist Barendra Krushna Dhal.
More than 300 publishers and book stores from across the country are participating in the 10-day Bhubaneswar Book Fair.
Prominent among them are Modern Books, Wonderland and Good Books from Kolkata, Sahitya Bhawan from Agra, Janak Books from Delhi, Santosh, Prakash, Motilal Banarsidass, Ganesh, Shree, Manini, Swagat and Ama Odisha from Bhubaneswar and Students Store, Manorama, Jagannath, Bidyapuri, Friends’, Law Agency and Sarala Book stores from Cuttack.
Publishers like Arihant, S Chand, Kiran, Dhillon, Tata Megraw Hill, Pearson, Oxford, Mac Millan, Trueman, GK, Kalyani and Evergreen Publications are also offering a wide range of books for students sitting for IIT-JEE, AIEEE, CAT, MAT, XAT, MCA, GATE, IES, IAS, OAS, banking, defence, engineering, management and medical courses.
Apart from career counselling and tourism stalls, books on spiritualism are also on display in the popular annual book fair.
Gita Press of Gorakhpur, Gayatri Books, Theosophical Society, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, Art of Living and Siridi Sai Stalls are also participating in the fair.
