Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district remained the hottest place in Odisha for the second successive day at 42 degrees Celsius as intense heat wave swept most parts of interior the state today.
Apart from Bhawanipatna, temperature soared to 40 degree and beyond in Angul (40.7), Jharsuguda (40.6), Sambalpur (40.9), Hirakud (40.7), Talcher (41), Titlagarh (41.5) and Sonepur (40).
Besides, temperature almost touched 40 degree in four other towns: Sundargarh (39), Bolangir (39.8), Phulbani (39.2) and Malkangiri (39).
There was a marginal rise in temperature in the capital city of Bhubaneswar which recorded 38.3 degrees today.
The Met office, in a release this evening, has predicted rain or thundershower at one or two places while thunder squall accompanied with strong gusty surface wind speed reaching 55 km may occur at one or two places over Odisha in the next 48 hours.
