Bhubaneswar: Beware speedsters! The Twin City Commissionerate Police is going to act tough on overspeeding motorists.
“Often there are complaints of overspeeding by youngsters riding motorcycles at different places. They are on our target. Traffic wing has been directed to identify them, note down their vehicle registration number and take strict action as per provisions of the law,” informed Twin City Police Commissioner Y B Khurania.
“Concerned RTOs can even cancel driving licences of repeat offenders,” he added.
Senior officials said that more number of CCTV cameras will be installed at busy traffic junctions under the Smart City Scheme to keep track of traffic rules violators.
Violators will be identified on examination of CCTV footages and ‘Penalty Challans’ will be despached to their address, they added.
Moreover, speed detectors will be installed at different points on the national highways, the officials further said.
Notably, 60 percent of the casualties caused due to road accidents in the State have been found to involve bikes.
