Bengal tourists chased, thrashed in Odisha’s Baripada

Mayurbhanj: A group of tourists from West Bengal, including some women and children, were allegedly chased and beaten up by locals today in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

All the tourists sustained injuries, some are serious, were admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Baripada.

As per the available information, as many as six men, seven women and seven children from the neighbouring state came to visit Simlipal National Park here. The locals targeted and attacked tourists after some men from the group made indecent comments at local women, sources said.

It is yet to be known whether there is any other reason behind the attack.

The locals chased and waylaid the tourists at Astia Chhak in Baripada and went on thrashing them mercilessly, the source added.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and begun investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, a man hunt has been launched by the police to nab the culprits.
