In a rerun of an earlier incident, tourists were again attacked by bees in the world famous Konark Temple on Wednesday.

In the afternoon, one of the beehives in the front entrance of the Sun Temple was disturbed by a powerful gust of wind and a swarm of bees attacked the tourists. The terrified tourists ran for protection in an attack which continued for half-an-hour.

In the first week of February, around a hundred tourists, including four foreigners were injured after a swarm of bees attacked them. Interestingly, in the front of the entrance of the Konark Temple, in north and south directions, three beehives were seen hanging even after several attacks by the bees on the tourists.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which is responsible for the maintenance of the monument has not taken any permanent action against the menace.

After discussion with forest officers a permanent solution by using chemical will be found, said ASI officer Nirmal Mahapatra. He added that after 8 pm the three beehives have been burnt, yesterday.
