A post-graduate student of North Odisha University was killed near the varsity campus by a group of assailants here, police said today.
Prasanajit Pani (24) was beaten up by six students and others when he was sitting in an eatery. He was declared brought dead by the district headquarter hospital here last night.
As the news of the death of Pani spread, hundreds of students thronged the hospital premises demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Pani, a native of village Anla Haripur under Baisinga police station, was a final year Master’s Degree student in Finance and Control, a self financing PG course in the North Odisha University.
Police is, however, still clueless about the culprits.”Three youths have been detained and are being interrogated,” said Sudhakar Jena, SDPO Baripada.
Demanding arrest of the culprits, students boycotted classes in the University, MPC Autonomous College and other colleges of the town.
JMM students’ wing, led by its President Rajiv Jena, staged a road blockade at Takatpur square on the National Highway. (PTI)
