Bhubaneswar, Dec 22:
Top CPI leader AB Bardhan who is on a 2-day Odisha visit met with chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik at his residence today.
Sources said, during the meeting, the former general secretary of the CPI exchanged notes with the BJD supremo on the current political situation in the state as well as the country and discussed possibility of a pre-poll alliance between the two parties.
According to sources, the CPI is looking at retaining the Jagasinghpur parliamentary constituency as well as a few assembly seats through seat adjustments with the BJD. CPI managed to win the Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat following a pre-poll alliance with the Left in 2009.
Bardhan later told news persons that CPI is all for an alliance of non-Congress non-BJP parties.
However, there are apprehensions that BJD may set conditions for its alliance with the CPI and may seek a dilution in the left party’s stand vis a vis the anti-Posco agitation in Dhinikia-Nuagaon area, sources added.
