Keonjhar: Keonjhar police foiled a bank robbery late on Tuesday night and arrested nine inter-state looters during a raid, police said today.
Among the looters arrested last night, four are from Jharkhand.
The nine accused were identified as Jagabandhu Prusty (35), Tala Baraj (25), Palai Birua (24), Ajay Hembram (23), Rabi Godasara (27) Gandhii Sinku, Nilu Birua (23), Bamadeba Rout (51) and Rajkishore Rout (42).
Police seized a carbine, four pistols, 18 live bullets, four bikes, mobile phones and other articles used for crime from the spot during the raid.
A case has been registered under sections 399, 402, 25 (A)/251-A of IPC.
Addressing a press conference here today, police said that raid was conducted suddenly on basis of information while the looters were planning for a bank robbery.
A police team led by Keonjhar Sadar ASI Bijay Kumar Mallick raided Dangapani forest and foiled the plan for robbing a branch of Bank of India located at Suakati.
Earlier, the looters were involved in many crimes including loot and dacoity cases in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Angul districts. More than 20 cases have been lodged against the accused in various police stations.
