Deogarh, Jun 20:

Normal life was largely affected in Odisha’s Deogarh today due to a bandh called by the district unit of Congress demanding fulfillment of a 6-point charter of demands which include release of input subsidy to farmers, appointment of doctors in hospitals of the district and recruitment of teaching staff in Deogarh college.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement came to a grinding halt as party activists blocked roads at several junctions in the district headquarters. Consequently, plying of vehicles on NH-49 was paralyzed.

Tension erupted as police tried to lift the road blockade. As many as 15 Congress activists, including Deogarh district Congress president Sem Hembram, were taken into preventive custody.

Criticizing the move of police, Congress has said that the agitation will be intensified in future in order to fulfill the demands.
