Normal life was halted due to 12-hour bandh called by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) against illegal drug and brown sugar trade in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha today.
The JMM activists protested demanding to make culture-rich Baripada town brown sugar-free. The protesters blocked the railway track and raised slogans against the illegal brown sugar trade.
The vehicular movement was halted and all the shops, markets, schools, colleges, offices and commercial establishments were closed due to bandh in the town.
Security forces have been deployed across the town to avoid any untoward incident during the shutdown, sources said.
