England were comfortably placed at 247 for two in the first innings after the first day’s play against India in the third cricket Test at The Rose Bowl here Sunday.

Alastair Cook fell for 95 while Gary Ballance was batting on 104. Ian Bell was also unbeaten on 16 when the stumps were drawn.
