The administration in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district is inquiring into the balloon gas cylinder blast at the Kalinga Balijatra ground at Paradip town on Saturday evening in which 12 persons, including a boy who lost one of his palms, were injured.
According to reports, police have arrested Nirupati Gharami, a balloon vendor from Dumdum area of Kolkata in West Bengal. The vendor, who stays at Musadiha area on the outskirts of Paradip, had sustained severe burn injuries on his thighs when the gas cylinder suddenly exploded.
The police have registered a case in this connection.
Meanwhile, acting on the order of the Jagatsinghpur collector, Kujang tehsildar Basudev Satpathy on Sunday met the injured persons at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and handed over financial assistance from the District Red Cross funds.
While Rs 10,000 was given to Pintu Swain, a minor boy of Mangarajpur area, who had lost his palm in the blast, three others, who were seriously injured, were given Rs 5000 each.
Meanwhile, the Kalinga Balijatra Committee, at a meeting here in the evening, announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the seriously injured minor boy, Rs 25,000 each to three seriously injured persons and Rs 5,000 each to eight others who had sustained minor injuries.
