Braving rains, lakhs of devotees thronged Odisha’s holy town Puri this morning to witness the Bahuda Yatra (return journey) of the three deities.
Till reports last came in, the pahandi of the deities had begun after the Daitapati servitors took Lord Sudarshan and placed beside the khatuli (seat) of Devi Subhadra on Darpadalana chariot. This would be followed by the pahandi of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Suvadra and Lord Jagannath and Lord Ramakrushna.
Prior to the pahandi, the servitors performed the Mangala Alati ritual of the Lords at 4 AM and Gopala Ballav and Sakala Dhupa at 6.30 AM.
The Senapata Lagi of the Lords was conducted at 11 AM and the Mangalarpana rituals at 11.45 PM.
The pahandi of the Lords which began at 11 AM will be completed by 2.30 PM. After the Lords are placed on their respective chariots, the Daitapatis would perform Vesha Lagi by 3 PM.
This would be followed by the Chhera Panhara of the Lords by the Gajapati King Divyasingh Dev on the chariots at 3.30 PM.
The unlocking of charamala (ladder fitted to the chariots) and Ghoda Lagi (fitting of wooden horses to the chariots) would be done between 3.30 PM and 4 PM after which the pulling of the chariots would begin at 4 PM.
