Bhubaneswar, May 1:
Mindtree co-founder Subroto Bagchi today assumed office as head of Odisha Skill Development Authority.
Bagchi, who has been given the rank of a Cabinet Minister, would tour 30 districts across the state in a fortnight to get a first-hand understanding of the initiatives on the ground based on which a detailed plan would be chalked out.
Prior to assuming office, Bagchi along with his family members visited the 12th century shrine in Puri to pay obeisance to Lord Jagannath. Later in the day yesterday, he called on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat here.
The 59-year-old IT entrepreneur will draw an annual salary of Re 1 for his services to the state.
Notably, Bagchi was born in Patnagarh in Bolangir district and studied in Utkal University. He began his career in the Industries department of Odisha government and went on to become a globally renowned IT entrepreneur.
