Addressing a joint press conference here in the afternoon, the three Badagrahis – Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, Haladhar Das Mohapatra and Ramachandra Das Mohapatra – claimed that there had been no irregularities during the Brahma Parivatan ritual, which had only been delayed.

They said apart from some trivial incidents, nothing irregular had happened from the start of Banajaga Yatra to the Brahma Parivartan of the Lords and Lord Jagannath should not be politicized.

They completely ruled out the presence of anyone other than them and Debaraj Pati Mohapatra, who performed the Brahma Parivartan on Lord Sudarshan on behalf of his brother Narasingha Pati Mohapatra, Badagrahi of Lord Sudarshan.

“I would like to assure all that there has been no departure from tradition from the start of Banajaga Yatra from March 29 till date. Some trivial incidents have taken place, which happens every time.  Everything has been done in conformity with the scriptures, there has been no irregularity. Everyone should know that instead of 15 days time for completion of carving of the idols, this year we were given 14 days which was due to kshaya in the tithi. Every ritual of Lord Jagannath is conducted as per the almanac; it’s not like ordinary griha pratistha (house wraming) which can be shifted/resheduled. The delay should be considered as an accident and will of the Lord. Lord Jagannath should not be made an object of cheap politics. Apart from we three Badagrahis and Debaraj Pati Mohapatra, no other person was present during the Brahma Parivatan of the Lords. After the Brahma Parivartan of the Lords was complete, we opened the doors of the sanctum sanctorum and as per past practice, allowed senior members of our community to have darshan of the new deities with the Brahma infused in them with the lid (Brahma Kapatika) remaining open. They had darshan of the Lords and later younger members of the community followed them and presented the new deities with gifts as per their capacity in accordance with tradition. Since completion of carving of new idols went behind schedule as the number of days for carving was reduced by a day, the whole process of rituals got delayed,” said Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, Badagrahi of Lord Jagannath.
