Four women students of Performing Arts department of Sambalpur University today levelled serious charges of mental torture and sexual harassment against a teacher of their department.
The four students are on a dharna in front of the administrative office of the varsity demanding stringent action against the accused teacher.
Office bearers of some socio-cultural organizations of Sambalpur have come in support of the students and joined them in the dharna.
The students have threatened to meet the Governor if no action is taken against him.
The students have alleged that Manoj Kumar Behera, a teacher of the Performing Arts department had mentally tortured them and had used double meaning words against them.
The students have also alleged that Behera had made offensive remarks on Sambalpuri music and dance. The students claimed that they had earlier complained to the vice chancellor in this regard but no action was taken.
The vice chancellor on the other hand, has said that a meeting of the sexual harassment cell of the varsity will sit for a meeting later in the day to take a call on the matter.
Meanwhile, another group of students of the same department have called the allegations made by the other group of students against the teacher as baseless.
