An Ikkat Sari from the house of Raas has bagged the State Textiles Award. Raas has always been at the helm of promoting the state’s weaving patterns and the weavers. Recently weaver on loom Manoranjan Thosa, under the able guidance of master weaver Arjun Pandit were awarded by the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik for excellency in weaving.The Sari has bagged accolades for its unique design and the color combinations used.
The design of the sari is an interpretation of the traditional nabakathori circa 9 cells design that depict auspicious motifs which are mostly related to Hindu weddings . The details on the sari has small boxes each having a different motif like gaja (elephant), mandaara (hibiscus), gendoo (marigold), prajapati (butterfly) etc.
Designers Pritam and Rashmi of Raas have given a contemporary twist by combining modern with the traditional motifs.
The design named Nabakathori is also being nominated for a national textile awards along with few more of the Raas designs.
