Bhubaneswar, Oct 15:
Senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member AU Singhdeo today urged the Odisha government to set up an agriculture university in Bolangir district.
“Bolangir is one of the backward districts of Odisha where the per capita income of the people is very low. Since agriculture is the main source of income for the people of this district, there is a need for some proactive initiative from the state government for development of agriculture,” Singhdeo said in a letter to chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Stating that the state government had taken up some major irrigation project to help the farmers of the district, he said steps should be taken to impart knowledge to the farmers on use of modern technology in farming to improve their livelihood.
“Odisha, having just one agriculture university, needs at least one more university for agriculture. As the BJD manifesto promises one agriculture university in KBK districts, I believe, Bolangir representing the backward and western Odisha districts, is the most suitable place for a second Agriculture University,” Singhdeo said.
