In the case of a minor boy trying to rape a 15-year-old girl in Khandagiri Bari area under Khandagiri police limits on Friday night, the co-accused identified as Nirmal Chandra Sahoo (44), a trader was nabbed by the police for allegedly helping the minor boy commit the crime.
Sahoo was handed over to Mahila Police for further investigation, while the minor boy, the prime accused in the case is yet to be traced.
According to reports, the victim who stays with her parents in Khandagiri Bari area was called by Sahoo to help him out at the grocery shop owned by him and then locked her in a room beside his shop.
A minor boy who was already inside that room tried to rape the girl claiming he had paid Sahoo to get her. Hearing the girl’s cries for help, people in the neighbourhood barged into the room and rescued the girl.
Sahoo was arrested after the girl’s mother filed a written compalint naming him. However, the minor boy who tried to rape the girl managed to escape.
The case has been handed over to city Mahila police for further investigation, said police sources.
This is the second such incident in a week.
A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy staying in the same locality in Mancheswar area on October 21. The accused was arrested and produced before the Juvenile Justice board on Friday.
