Bargarh: Solving the mystery surrounding the murderous attack on a family in Odisha’s Bargarh during which a woman was killed, the district police have arrested five persons including two women and unearthed the ‘extramarital affair’ connection in the case.
The woman, identified as Jayashree Meher (46), had died on the spot due to the attack while her husband Khirod Meher (50) and two sons Devendra (18) and Balaram (25) sustained grievious injuries and were hospitalised.
According to police sources, the extramarital affair of the deceased woman’s daughter-in-law led to the attack and murder. Balaram’s wife (the woman’s daughter-in-law) had an affair with Mitrabhanu Guru of Teterkend village before the marriage. The continuation of the relationship after marriage was opposed by her in-laws.
Later, Mitrabhanu, Kedar Meher (father of Balaram’s wife) and Kedar’s two daughters hatched a conspiracy to eliminate the family. Mitrabhanu along with his three associates barged into the house on December 5 night and attacked the family members with sharp weapons, killing Jayashree on the spot and injuring others.
SDPO of Padampur, Laxminarayan Panda had formed a special squad to probe into the incident. While five persons– Mitrabhanu, Kedar, Kedar’s two daughters and Paritosh Banka– have so far been arrested, two other associates of Mitrabhanu are still at large.
