Puri, Dec 20:
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) engineers have resumed the chemical cleaning work of Sri Jagannath temple after two and a half years.
There has been no chemical cleaning of the main temple of Lord Jagannath since five years.
ASI engineers on Thursday began work by applying chemical paper paste on the engraved sculptures around the main temple. The paper paste, applied on these sculptures to remove dirt around them, would be withdrawn after some days.
After the cleaning work is completed, ASI authorities would apply chemical coating on these sculptures to protect them from saline vapours, strong wind and heat.
It is expected that the work would be completed before the Rath Yatra next year.
