Bhubaneswar, Jan 4:

Opposing the arrest of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Tapas Paul and Sudip Bandyopadhyay for their alleged complicity in the Rose Valley Group chit fund scam, party activists staged a demonstration before CBI’s regional office in Odisha capital today.

The protest was led by MLA of Ramnagar (West Bengal), Akhil Giri.

“Both Tapas Paul and Sudip Bandyopadhyay are innocent. They have been arrested by the CBI under the influence of the BJP. This is a conspiracy by the BJP to eliminate TMC,” Giri said.

Protesting the arrest of the two MPs and demonetization, TMC will organise a mega rally in Bhubaneswar on January 10, he said.

On the other hand, Bandyopadhyay’s advocate Rajiv Majumdar said that his arrest is vindictive politics. The CBI should first prove that Sudip has received money from Rose Valley Group, the advocate said.

Notably, Bandyopadhyay was summoned by the CBI and arrested after questioning in Kolkata yesterday.

Similarly, Paul was arrested by the Central investigation agency on December 30 in Kolkata.
