The robbers looted about Rs.15 lakh and gold ornaments from Indian Bank at Sundargarh estimated to be around Rs 20 lakh. Besides, the robbers took the CCTV recorder along with them leaving behind no recorded evidence of their broad daylight act.

Soon after the incident, district Superintendent of Police and other police officials rushed to bank and started investigating into the incident.

Around six miscreants, including the driver, arrived at the Indian Bank, situated at Hospital Road, Mission Square, Sundargarh in a jeep at around 2 pm. While five of them entered into the bank, the driver waited outside the bank, which had no security guard posted outside it.

After entering into the bank, the armed miscreants took the bank manager Jasinta Kerketta towards strong room at gun point. They also threatened the staff not to make any move and asked them to cooperate with them.

After getting the keys of the strong room, they stashed the cash and jewellery in a bag and also looted cash from the teller counters. They also snatched a mobile phone from a staff and uprooted the CCTV recorder before fleeing the spot.

Sundargarh Superintendent of Police R.Prakash and other police officials of Town police station rushed to the spot and began investigating into the case.

Meanwhile, police have sealed the borders and started frisking of vehicles at Jharsuguda and Rourkela.

“Our investigation is on to nab the miscreants who have looted the bank,” R.Prakash, Superintendent of Police, Sundargarh said.
